About Raga

“Each raga has its own mood and its own time, you see.
If you play ragas in their proper times, that mood will come.
Of course it will take some time, some practice.
But if you play them at the wrong
time, one day you will call for that mood and it won’t come.
Just like your friend - if you treat him badly, will he come to visit you?”

ラーガについて

”それぞれのラーガ（インド音楽における旋律の旋法）には独自のムードがあり、
演奏されるべき時間が定められている。ただしい時間にしかるべきラーガを演奏すれば、
そのムードはおのずとそこから立ちあらわれてくる。
もちろんラーガのムードをただしく表現できるようになるには時間を費やして練習しなくてはならない。
ところが適切でない時間帯にそのラーガを演奏したならば、そのムードを呼び求めても、
そのムードが立ちあらわれることはないだろう。
それは友達づきあいのようなもので、友達に対しよくない扱いをすれば、
その友達があなたの前に現れることがなくなるようなものである。”
